Location highlights:

For the culture seeker, budding historian, sports enthusiast and urban adventurer, there’s no place quite like Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It’s one of the most historic and culture-rich cities in the USA with its foundation dating back to the mid-1700s. Pittsburgh is a destination that posts impressive numbers, too: 90 distinct neighborhoods, 30 craft breweries, 29 world-class colleges and universities, a 14-block Cultural District, nine James Beard semifinalist chefs in 2018 alone, four Carnegie Museums and three professional sports teams. To top it all off, Pittsburgh boasts one of the most Instagram-worthy skylines in the country.

Four Seasons of Great Outdoors

In winter, go skiing, snow tubing and dogsledding at 22 ski resorts scattered across the eastern and southern parts of the state. All summer long, sparkling lakes and winding rivers beckon to visitors, luring them with opportunities to go kayaking, canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding. Take the family to Presque Isle State Park near Erie for swimming, boating and birdwatching on the shores of Lake Erie. At night, go stargazing – Pennsylvania is home to some of the darkest skies in the eastern USA, and several great observatories offer an even closer look. In search of an adrenaline rush? Check out whitewater rafting in the Laurel Highlands or Pocono Mountains. For a less-strenuous adventure, take a ride on one of the many scenic railroads that crisscross the state, especially beautiful when covered with autumn’s brilliant leaves.

The Millworks, Harrisburg

The Millworks in Harrisburg, a “hyper-local” restaurant and beer garden, is as much a feast for the eyes as it is the palate. The locally focused eatery is home to a walk-through art gallery, as well as studio spaces for sculptors, painters and more. Savor Summer Bisque and a pastrami sandwich made with locally raised beef and house-made sauerkraut while watching the artists at work. Stop for a pint in the open-air beer garden which offers a full restaurant menu and views of the art galleries and studio.

Jump into family fun at theme parks, museums and Amish farms!
